We've been lucky enough to have a sneak peak at the art for our 2015 calendar. All the artwork this year is by the fabulous and local artist Holly Roach! Holly is the talent responsible for our beautiful Waitangi Day print and Harakeke Flax among others.
Can you believe it's that time already?

Black specials
There's $40 off our 8 seater Puawananga (Clematis) flowered cloth in our BLACK SALE! See it below and all the rest of the specials here.
It's Maori name, Puawananga, reflects its scared status - the child of two stars of the heavens. Rehua, the father whose appearance was the sign of summer coming and Puanga the mother was the food bringer. If her rays twinkled north, a plentiful year was in prospect; if towards the south, a lean year of harvest would follow.

Homage to Tangaroa (seen below) Now on sale!
A beautiful tea towel all about the coastal sea garden.
Tangaroa’s
coastal sea garden of native sea weeds and sponges are incorporated in
this new tea towel design by K Morison. New Zealand seaweeds form a charming border pattern and a "floral arrangement" with a paua and other sea creatures as the centre piece.
Declares our love and respect for Tane’s native kingdom.
Tane
Mahuta the Maori god of life, the forests, the birds and human beings
created a most special place called Aotearoa. We love this country and
we commissioned this Pauanesia tea towel to celebrate Tane Mahuta's
kingdom.
Coromandel Vessel (seen below)
Melissa
Martin designed a Coromandel inspired tea towel design. She has
incorporated Puawananga flowers, Kereru (native wood pigeon), Tui and
Piwakawaka birds in her Coromandel vessel surrounded by native moths and
fauna. The otahu colourway has a smokey teal background and lime green vessel.

has incorporated Kokako, Tieke (Saddleback), Kakariki (yellow crowned
Parakeet), Toutouwai (black robin) and Piwakawaka . These are some of
the endangered native birds found on Tiritiri Matangi island bird
sanctuary.
Takutai Hui | A coastal gathering (see below)

Kakapo
We are pretty proud of our nations wildlife and have a special soft spot for our endangered kakapo. With under 130 left in the world these incredibly handsome and unique parrots need a bit of a hand. They are thought to be the world's oldest living bird and are the world's heaviest parrot!
We donate $10 from every Kakapo sale in our store to Kakapo Recovery, the team dedicated to keeping this beautiful bird alive. Our soft stuffed Kakapo are made especially for us from salvaged textiles and no two are the same.
There are lots of other ways you can directly help the Kakapo Recovery team too including being able to 'adopt a kakapo' and all the information is here on their website. Plus there you can listen to a kakapo 'skkrarrk', 'boom' and 'ching'.

LATE.
This coming Monday there is another LATE at the Auckland Museum event. LATE is a series of curated evenings, which include special guests, live performances, drinks, food, and special late-night exhibition tours. Held every second Monday, from now until Nov, and is worth the trip into the city for!
This week LATE talks about 'the cult of food' asking 'If you are what you eat then who are we as New Zealanders?'. With an exciting panel and a cooking demo from co-founder and owner of the Little Bird Unbakery, Megan May, it's sure to be a great night.
$20 a pop! Or $10 for Auckland Museum members.
