Dear Jervois.

There are so many brilliant wee cafes popping up in Auckland at the moment. The latest one we'd like to visit is Dear Jervois. Have you been yet? We've read mixed reviews, it sounds like they were a little overwhelmed in the first days of opening but never fear, good things take time and the coffee is 'Supreme' so it can't be that bad.

We'll be sure to visit soon! If you've been tell us what you thought!

Ruatahuna is in the remote country of The Ureweras, and is surrounded on three sides by Te Urewera National Park. Mahoe Honey was developed to manage and care for the land while also creating jobs for the local people.

Our new capes.

This year we've introduced a line of cuddly capes to our own made in New Zealand Wairua collection. The capes are one size, but made to fit a variety of sizes (we've tested them on ourselves!) and are designed by us and knitted locally.

Using the Maori taaniko pattern around the seam we've blended two colours for each cape, knitted in possum and merino. The colourways this season are Tui (inspired by our native bird), Mawhero (the pink!) and Dotterel.

See them all for yourself on our online store, or at High St!

Tui fob.

Another beautiful fob by Caroline Mitchell just got added to our website here, the Tui! Tui are considered to be very intelligent, much like parrots. They also resemble parrots in their ability to clearly imitate human speech, and were trained by Māori to replicate complex speech. Tui are also known for their noisy, unusual call, different for each individual, that combine bellbird-like notes with clicks, cackles, timber-like creaks and groans, and wheezing sounds.

The soft embroidered, beaded and sequined fob is a superb ornament for Christmas, and all year round.

Winter Jam.

We thought we'd share this wonderful winter (refined sugar free) jam recipes from one of our favourite local New Zealand chefs, Eleanor Ozich from Petite Kitchen. Raw fig, apple and chia seed jam- yum!

See instructions below the photo.

2 cups of dried figs
2 cups natural apple juice
3 tbsp chia seeds

Add the figs and apple juice to a food processor or blender. Process until just roughly pureed.

Transfer to a glass jar. Add the chia seeds, and then mix well making sure they are well incorporated in to the fruit puree.

Place in the fridge to set for at least an hour or so.

Makes a small jar full.

Will keep for 2-3 weeks in the fridge.

*gluten free
*dairy free

*refined sugar free

Happy Thursday to you all!

2014 Wairua Collection

Has just hit our store with fresh colourways in our classic snuggle scarves and hand cosies, featured below, and more! We are really excited about this years collection with the addition of new Wairua capes (post about those coming soon!) and are really happy with our colour combinations.

All of our Wairua collection is designed by us here in Auckland and knitted locally in New Zealand using a blend of fine Merino wool and Possum fibre. Our pieces are glowingly warm while remarkably light to wear and make a wonderful New Zealand gift to help keep your loved ones warm through winter!

See for yourself below.
